Turkish Airlines land on River Plate with $15m shirt deal

August 2 – Argentina giants River Plate will carry Turkish Airlines as their new shirt sponsor in a three-year deal reportedly worth $15 million.

With the new deal Turkish Airlines will build their portfolio in football which includes the Turkis national team, Galatasaray, FK Sarajevo and Toronto FC.

Last season the Buenos Aires club played without a shirt sponsor. Previously River had had a deal with BBVA Francés, the Argentinian arm of Spanish bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) that was worth around $4.5 million a year.

City rivals Boca Juniors are sponsored by Qatar Airways. They signed a kit deal with Adidas worth more than $10 million a season, which reportedly exceeds the value River get from Adidas.

Last season River won the Copa Libertadores at the expense of Boca Junior after the second leg of the showpiece final was moved to Madrid.
