Inter Milan launch appeal as players and staff donate €500,000 for Covid-19 research

March 16 – First-team players, technical staff and employees Italy’s Inter Milan have launched a global crowdfunding campaign with the finds to be donated to the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences at the Luigi Sacco Hospital of Milan, a leading centre for infectious diseases and epidemiological emergencies and on the front line of the fight against the killer virus in Italy.

The aim of the donation is to fund research at the hospital, which is playing a key role internationally in the development of a vaccine for Covid-19.

So far Inter employees, including players, have donated more than €500,000 and have now opened up the crowdfunding campaign to fans via the link: https://www.facebook.com/donate/742589286270444/

Inter, owned by Chinese conglomerate Suning, have been supporting the fight against Coronavirus as a club since it first spread in China and then in Italy. 300,000 masks were donated to the city of Wuhan while the Nerazzurri players took to the pitch with a patch dedicated to China on their jerseys during the recent Milan Derby. In Italy, Suning and Inter have donated €100,000 to the Luigi Sacco Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences in Milan, as well as providing 300,000 masks and other medical products to the National Department of Civil Protection.
