FIFA and WHO combine with social health campaign to kick out coronavirus

March 20 – FIFA has teamed up with the World Health Organisation (WHO) for a new awareness campaign in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The joint campaign focuses on the five key steps that experts have been reiterating since the beginning of the outbreak: handwashing, coughing etiquette, not touching your face, social distancing, and staying home.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino joined WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to launch the “pass the message to kick out coronavirus” video campaign.

The campaign involves a video featuring 28 of the biggest names in the sport including  Lionel Messi, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, and former England team captain, and World Cup semi-finalist, Gary Lineker.

“I call upon the football community worldwide to join us in supporting this campaign to pass the message even further,” said Infantino.

“Some of the greatest players to have played the beautiful game have put their names to the campaign and are united in their desire to pass the message to kick out COVID-19.”

“This virus is a global problem and it has shown to all of us two things. One, is how vulnerable we are and the other is how global the world is. Exceptional situations require exception measures and global problems require global solutions.”
