Serie A in discussion over centralising fixtures in Rome, say reports

April 9 – Italy’s Serie A is reportedly discussing playing all the remaining fixtures for the 2019/20 season in Rome.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) suspended play in March but is keen to find a solution to ending the season that doesn’t impact on the 2020/21 schedule.

The Rome venue for all matches would most likely be the Stadio Olympico, part of the sprawling but aging Italian Olympic complex.

The suggestion is that all of Serie A’s 20 teams would be based in Rome, using local facilities for training. All matches would be played behind closed doors. Clubs and staff would be housed in separate hotels, while officials, cameramen and broadcast production crews would also be similarly isolated for the duration of the competition

A similar idea was suggested for the Premier League who reckon they need six weeks to complete their season, however, that concept seems to have been shelved.
