Life in the fast lane: Beckham’s Aston Martin or the ‘Green Rocket’ Bungartz T7 tractor?

July 7 – A smart and expensive set of wheels is an essential part of the kit of the modern day millionaire professional footballer. But what happens when those wheels become less loved and surplus to requirements. What is the vehicle resale value with the celebrity attachment added to the luxury value of the car? And what if the car, or tractor, is a beautifully maintained classic?

Two vehicles have recently came up for sale, both with historical pedigree and both used by the best football has to offer.

David Beckham’s vintage Aston Martin V8 Volante will cost you a cool £445,000 (asking price) on Autotrader. Alternatively, you could think outside the box (or inside the stadium) for your next set of wheels and go for the equally beautiful but more reasonably priced Bungartz T7 tractor at €9,900 from Lorinser Classic in Germany.

Both – like their previous owners – have been equally polished, restored and push the boundaries of excusable folly when it comes to car buying or football memorabilia collection.

Beckham’s Aston Martin comes in deep red, with cream leather interiors, deep pile carpets and burr walnut, as well as the “sought-after” X Pack engine – a must for a six-pack driver. The V8 Volante has a five-speed manual gearbox and 432hp, the V8 can do 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds, and a top speed of 168mph.

Previously registered under Beckham’s personal plate ‘DB1001’, the car was with Beckham for 15 years, including during his time with Real Madrid.

In contrast the ‘Green Rocket’ Bungartz T7 doesn’t have the same performance stats but certainly scores high for in-stadium minutes. The former property of legendary TSV 1860 Munich football club, it majestically patrolled the pitch of the famous Grünwalder Stadium with its life mission being to take care of the grass.

No autobahn or country lane for this classic beauty; it was never licensed for road use and never had to carry out heavy-duty lifting. Hence the 56 year old is mechanically almost as new and with the restoration on the paintwork, electrical system and tyres is eager to return to some kind of narrow-gauge tractor action.
