Tunnel vision: West Ham test new sanitiser at training base

September 9 – West Ham United are the first English club to trial a ground-breaking Covid-19 sanitiser tunnel designed to get fans back into stadiums safely.

The Premier League side are testing the equipment at their training base used by their development squad, Under 18s and women’s team.

The tunnel is similar to an airport scanner that records facial recognition and involves a thermal imaging camera to record someone’s temperature.

The person then moves on to have their clothes lightly sprayed with a non-alcoholic, water-based sanitiser which neutralises bacteria and viruses.

West Ham’s London Stadium, like all elite level stadiums in the country, is currently closed to fans with only about 300 members of staff, players and media representatives allowed inside the arenas for matchdays.

Those same rules will be remaining in place for the start of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, which gets underway this weekend.
