Newcastle United isolate as Covid positives force training ground closure

December 1 – Newcastle United’s entire first-team squad have been forced to self-isolate as the Premier League club closed its training ground amid a growing Covid-19 outbreak.

Newcastle’s fixture with Aston Villa on Friday is in danger of postponement since the training ground will not reopen until Wednesday at the earliest.

Fresh coronavirus tests on Sunday revealed four players and one staff member had tested positive.

If the Villa game is called off, it would be the first Premier League game to fall victim to Covid since the initial resumption of top-tier games in June.
