April 28 – Angel City FC who made headlines worldwide at their launch with their big hitting all-female ownership group, has hired the UK-based Women’s Sports Group (WSG) to work with club to build the brand.
Angel City will debut in the NWSL in the US in 2022, playing at the 22,000 capacity Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, also the home of MLS side LAFC.
A statement from WSG said they had been appointed “to amplify Angle FCs global brand as it accelerates its pioneering development plans”.
Angel City FC’s founders are Academy Award-winning actress and activist Natalie Portman, technology venture capitalist Kara Nortman, media and gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman and tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist Alexis Ohanian. The ownership group includes Serena Williams, Abby Wambach, Billie Jean King, actors Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner and many more. In addition, the team’s investors include 14 former US Women’s National Team players including Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy.
WSG, an advisor to the English FA, was founded by Dame Heather Rabbatts in 2019 “to create new opportunities to promote, enhance and empower women’s sport. The business is focussed on three core areas – strategic communications counsel, media rights management and partnership development.
“The club’s innovative approach is already resonating hugely with football fans, and we’re excited to be working with them to bring their global vision to life,” said Rabbatts.
