Expedia extends its UEFA booking in a one-season deal

August 11 – Expedia Group has extended its Champions League partnership with UEFA in a one-season deal for 2021/22.

A UEFA partner since 2018, Expedia will retain its Official Travel Partner status and will also have rights across the Super Cup, UEFA Youth League finals and the UEFA Futsal Champions League finals.

The sponsorship inventory will be shared between the Expedia and Hotels.com brands. Expedia is a full-service online travel brand offering flight, accommodation, car rental and attractions, and is available in over 30 countries. Hotels.com is focussed on accommodation and etails online via 90 local websites in 41 different languages.

Jon Gieselman, president of Expedia Brands, said:“We’re delighted to extend our strong partnership with the UEFA Champions League. Fans love football, and those same fans love to travel – it’s as simple as that. Our premium brands offer the best way for fans to get behind their favourite football clubs and when possible, explore new destinations while they’re doing it.”

UEFA’s commercial sales partner TEAM Marketing has now completed eight official sponsor deals for the 2021/22 season of the UEFA Champions League. The Expedia deal is unusual in that the term is for just one-season. Sponsorships usually are sold on a three-year cycle.

Guy-Laurent Epstein, Marketing Director of UEFA Events SA, said:”We are very pleased that Expedia Group has chosen to extend its involvement with UEFA’s flagship club competition for another year. Following some really entertaining campaigns such as Dream Island, Glory Hunters or Casa de Cantona over the past three years, we look forward to what activations Expedia and Hotels.com have in the pipeline for fans this season.”

No value was given for the sponsorship extension.
