Syria to play key Qatar 2022 qualifier vs South Korea at neutral venue

December 30 – Syria will continue to play their home matches in Qatar 2022 qualifying at neutral venues, including the crucial upcoming game against South Korea on February 1 which will likely decide the World Cup fates of both nations.

A win for South Korea will likely guarantee them a top two finish in Group A that will automatically qualify them for Qatar 2022.

Although Syria are bottom of the group, two wins in their next two games would keep them very much in contention for the play off for the inter-continental play-off spot with two group games left to play.

The third placed teams in the two groups will play off for the right to meet a South America challenger for a place at the Qatar 2022 finals. Currently Australia are in third placed position in Group B, a point behind Japan who are four points behind Saudi Arabia.

Syria have had a disappointing final group qualifying stage but are nevertheless a competitive team. They narrowly lost 2-1 to South Korea when the two sides last met at the Ansan Wa Stadium in Korea in October.

The venue for Syria’s home game is still to be announced. They have previously played their qualifying group home fixtures in Amman, Jordan.
