Giggs’ Welsh return on hold as court date pushed to August

January 19 – The trial of Wales manager Ryan Giggs over alleged domestic violence  has been delayed until  August 8 – due to a lack of court space.

The former Manchester United star was due to go on trial at Manchester Crown Court on Monday accused of coercive behaviour and assault against his ex-girlfriend and her sister.

However, a hearing was told there was nowhere available in the building.

Giggs, 47, has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all charges. His barrister, Chris Daw, QC, said his client was “extremely disappointed” at the development.

Giggs’ assistant, Robert Page, was put in interim charge of Wales in November 2020, taking the team to the round of 16 at last summer’s delayed European Championship and also overseeing promotion to the top tier of the Nations League.

As a result of the new court hearing date, Page looks set to take charge of Wales in the World Cup play-offs in March.
