Botafogo go crypto with Bitci fan tokens and NFT option

February 11 – Botafogo have signed a sponsorship agreement with Turkish blockchain platform Bitci, becoming the latest Brazilian club to enter the fan-token market.

Bitci will launch Botafogo’s fan token and their logo will be featured a first time on the club’s shirt during Botafogo’s 2-0 victory against Nova Iguaçu in the Rio state championship. The partnership also includes the possibility of exploiting other digital assets, such as NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

“The partnership with Bitci marks Botafogo’s entry into a strategic and important market in the business area,” said CEO Botafogo Jorge Braga. “It will not be just a sponsor, but a player that will activate experiences and help the club connect with its fans.”

“Bitci is a giant and has experience in the area of Fan Tokens with major brands in the world. Botafogo arrives in this market with the expectation of great success for both parties and, mainly, in the relationship with the Botafogo fans,” added Botafogo’s director of business Lênin Franco.

Last year, Bitci partnered with the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF) to develop fan tokens and official NFTs for the Brazilian men’s and women’s national teams.

“That is why we are launching our first global cryptocurrency exchange platform outside of Turkey under the umbrella of Bitci in Brazi,” said Bitci CEO Onur Altan Tan.

“Brazil will also be the centre of our operation in South America. We know what sports and football mean in Brazil. Our goal is to make this experience even better, differentiate it, add a new dimension and make fans an indispensable part of teams using the power of technology. Botafogo is a symbol of this country. We are very happy to support Botafogo’s digital transformation journey with this project. We have big surprises for Alvinegro fans and we will announce them soon.”

Bitci also have Fortaleza, Refice, Vitoria in their portofolio. Both Spain’s and Uruguay’s national teams as well as basketball’s governing body have also struck deals with Bitci.
