CBF ends any chance of Caboclo return with extension of his ban

February 25 – Rogerio Caboclo’s time at the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF) has come to a definite end following a new 20-month suspension which will prevent him from returning to his role before the end of his mandate in April 2023.

The suspension, imposed by the CBF’s ethics committee and approved by the general assembly in response to a complaint of moral harassment filed by the organization’s IT director Fernando França, comes on top of a previous 21-month suspension following accusations of sexual harassment.

“The sentence of another 20 months, now totalling 41 months of ban, prohibiting participation in any activity related to football, was imposed on Caboclo by the Ethics Committee of Brazilian football, after an investigation and judgment of the case in which he was accused of moral harassment by a director of the CBF.”

França said that the CBF boss defamed him and insulted him for refusing to erase the telephone communications and emails of the former secretary who accused Caboclo of sexual harassment.

As a consequence, the CBF presidency is vacated and the confederation has up to 30 days to call for new elections for a stop-gap president in which only vice-presidents will be allowed to run.

In a statement, Caboclo railed against the decision that will see him exit the CBF. “This is an illegal, unfair and political decision that we will promptly appeal against,” said Caboclo.

Last year,  Caboclo was suspended on June 6, two days after the complaint of sexual harassment. He was accused of asking an employee, after successive abusive behaviour,  if “she masturbated”. The former employee also said Caboclo tried to force her to eat a dog biscuit, calling her a “bitch”.

He has always denied all the allegations. Caboclo is the CBF’s fourth president who has been removed from office. Ricardo Teixeira, Marco Polo del Nero and Jose Maria Marin were accused of corruption – the latter already having been sentenced in the US.
