Thailand and Uzbekistan to host pilot AFC Women’s Club Championship groups

May 26 – Thailand will host the ‘pilot tournament’ for the AFC’s East zone for the Women’s Club Championship 2022. Uzbekistan is hosting the West zone pilot tournament.

The AFC is building towards the launch of its Women’s Champions League in 2024 has conducted pilot women’s club tournaments in both 2019 and 2021.

The will be the first season that pilot tournaments have been held in East and West zones, with the winners of each zone going through to the first-ever regional Final contest which will be played at the same time as the AFC Cup 2022 Final on October 22.

Three teams will compete in the East group in Thailand – Taichung Blue Whale FC from Chinese Taipei and Myanmar’s ISPE Women FC, plus a club from Thailand to be decided. The group will be played from August 15 to 21.

Uzbekistan will host a four-team group with a club from their own federation plus representative from India, Iran and Jordan. That group will be played August 20 to 26.

In 2019, Nippon TV Beleza from Japan beat Melbourne Victory in the final 5-0 in Yongin, South Korea. In 2021 Jordan’s Amman Club beat Iran’s Shahrdari Sirjan 2-1 at the Aqaba Development Corporate Stadium, Jordan.
