Inter launch channel on ad-supported streaming platform Recast

August 11 – Inter Milan have become the latest of Europe’s big clubs to launch a channel on micro-payment free streaming platform Recast.

In July Manchester City launched Recast and kicked off with the club’s friendly against Bayern Munich last weekend in Green Bay.

Recast is a subscription-free, live and on-demand streaming platform which pays publishers (in this case Manchester City) for every single view of the content the club receives, with up to 85% of all income generated from advertising going to them directly.

Recast’s micropayment model prices content from just 1p per minute, using an in-platform credit system, ‘Cast Credits’. Casts can either be purchased or earned by watching ads, sharing videos or data, or by inviting friends to join. Casts are used to watch content.

While Manchester City has used the channel to monetise long form content, Recast is generally marketed as a home for shorter form content.

Inter said it will use the channel for live game content including pitch action, highlights and behind the scenes access from the men’s, women’s, and youth sides at the San Siro.

The channel will also host an exclusive original series with new content from past and present club legends – including the club’s Brazilian former player Ronaldo.

Alessandro Antonello, CEO corporate of Inter, said: “This significant step is part of the club’s evolution and innovation in terms of how it presents content and the ways in which our fans can enjoy it, both in Italy and abroad.”

Andy Meikle, founder and CEO of Recast, said: “Our platform was created to remove the subscription barrier, utilising microtransactions to give fans flexible and affordable options to consume the content they want, while giving rights holders, such as Inter, full control to effectively monetise and manage all of their digital revenue, not just a small percentage.

“Rights holders around the world are recognising the increasing change in audience behaviour and demand. The subscription model is exhausted – this is a breakthrough period for Recast as rights holders and fans turn to us to provide a future-proofed solution to content streaming.”
