Blatter says Iran should be kicked out of Qatar 2022 and Infantino needs to take a position

November 11 – Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has added his voice to those who believe Iran should be kicked out of the World Cup because of the country’s brutal crackdown against anti-government protests.

The violence has been sparked by the death of a woman in the custody of morality police and Blatter says he would have removed Iran had he still been running football’s world governing body.

“Iran should be excluded from the World Cup,” the mass circulation Swiss newspaper Blick quoted him as saying.

Iran has accused its enemies of fomenting unrest raging since the death of Mahsa Amini in September after her arrest for allegedly flouting Iran’s strict rules relating to the hijab.

Blick paper cited Blatter as saying it was incomprehensible that his successor at FIFA, Gianni Infantino, had not taken a clear position on the subject. Infantino has moved his family and home from Zurich, Switzerland, to Doha, Qatar. Iran and Qatar have close political relations.
