Saudis keep up outreach with Singapore MoU and a pavilion on Doha’s corniche

November 21 – Saudi Arabia is continuing its football charm offensive, signing an MoU with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), and on the ground in Qatar opening a dedicated pavilion showcasing the country’s culture and football history.

The two-year agreement with will see both the Saudi FA and FAS collaborate across five main areas: youth national teams, women’s football, technical and professional exchanges, referees and technology.

“Football in Singapore is going through a transformation and we both share massive ambitions for the future to nurture male and female talent and compete on the biggest global stages. FAS’ Unleash the Roar! Project shares many similarities with our 10-year football transformation strategy launched last year. It represents an excellent example of grassroots development and how multiple entities can come together to grow the beautiful game in the country,” said SAFF President Yasser Al Misehal.

A pavilion on the corniche

The dedicated Saudi Arabian pavilion has been organised by the Saudi Ministry of Sport and Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), and is another example of the turnround in the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Qatar following the Saudi-led blockade of the World Cup hosts.

The size of more than two football pitches (18,000sq m), it will be open to fans from 12pm till 12am offering a range of entertainment and activities, from live music featuring local artists to a roster of street shows to unique immersive experiences.

‘The Green Pulse’ takes fans through a journey of Saudi football’s history, showcasing its most its most iconic moments, goals and heroes.

Saudi Arabian Minister of Sport HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal said: “We strongly believe in the power of football to bring people together from different backgrounds and ages, in addition to its power to promote diversity and inclusion. Saudi House presents a perfect opportunity for us to showcase our diverse culture, immense hospitality, traditions and football history to the world during the biggest show on earth.”
