Frappart records a World Cup first

November 23 – France’s Stephanie Frappart made history by becoming became the first female official in a men’s World Cup finals when she was selected as the fourth official in Mexico’s 0-0 draw with Poland on Tuesday.

Frappart was one of three women to be included on the list of referees for the tournament in Qatar.

The Frenchwoman has broken new ground before when she became the first female to referee a men’s Champions League game in 2020 by taking charge of  Juventus versus Dynamo Kiev.

She has also officiated in Ligue 1, the Europa League, men’s World Cup qualifying and the UEFA Supercup final between Chelsea and Liverpool in 2019.
