Mastercard renews Copa Libertadores for four editions and adds women’s competition

January 27 – Mastercard has renewed its sponsorship of Conmebol’s Copa Libertadores through to 2026 with the addition of the confederation’s women’s club competition – Libertadores Feminina – to the agreement.

Mastercard has been a leader in championing women’s sport and a major supporter of SIGA’s women’s programmes for sports executives. The addition of the Libertadores Feminina to the sponsorship follows a lead Mastercard has taken amongst sports sponsors towards ending gender discrimination and increasing inclusion and equality within the game.

Mastercard will be designated the official sponsor in the financial services and payment services category and will activate the sponsorship via promotions for its customers, as well as via its ‘Priceless’ experiences campaign for Mastercard cardholders and football fans.

“For Mastercard, football is a passion that transcends boundaries and unites people around the world beyond differences and geographic borders. Supporting CONMEBOL is consistent with Mastercard’s commitment to connect people with their passions, from the excitement of a goal to the sheer joy of a match,” said Roberto Ramírez Laverde (pictured left), senior vice president of marketing and communications for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Copa Libertadores kicks off in January with the qualifying phase and runs until November, with approximately 156 matches.

Mastercard will be designated the official sponsor in the financial services and payment services category and will activate the sponsorship via promotions for its customers, as well as via its ‘Priceless’ experiences campaign for Mastercard cardholders and football fans.

“Conmebol values the support of a global company like Mastercard for two of its most important tournaments, the Conmebol Libertadores and the Conmebol Libertadores Femenina. This partnership is the result of a shared vision by Conmebol and this prestigious company on the importance of supporting South American football and giving fans around the world a unique experience”, said Alejandro Domínguez (pictured right), president of Conmebol.

Mastercard is already a sponsor of Conmebol’s men’s and women’s Copa America competitions. No value was given for the Copa Libertadores renewal.
