England hit form, and six goals, to beat Belgium to Arnold Clark Cup

February 23 – England’s Lionesses retained the Arnold Clark Cup on Wednesday by thrashing Belgium 6-1, the perfect tonic for the European champions in the build-up to the World Cup this summer.

England, who beat Italy and South Korea in their other two games, stretched their unbeaten run to 29 matches under coach Sarina Wiegman.

Apart from a brief scare in their second match against Italy – which they eventually won 2-1 – England’s superiority was on show throughout as Wiegman rotated her squad.

“Of course when you go into a tournament you want to win it. But what I said before this week was we wanted to try out lots of things and that’s exactly what we did,” said Wiegman.

England have now won every tournament they have entered under Wiegman, lifting three trophies in 12 months, and go into the World Cup full of momentum as they seek to win it for the first time in their history.
