AFC releases seeding pots for 12 teams in second round of 2024 Women’s Olympic qualifying

May 16 – The draw for the for the last 12 teams in the Asian qualifiers for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 will be held Thursday May 18 at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In the first round that was played April 1-12, Uzbekistan (Group A), Iran (Group B), Vietnam (Group C), Thailand (Group D), Philippines (Group E), Chinese Taipei (Group F) and India (Group G) all qualified for the Round 2 group phase which will be played in a single round-robin league format in one of three centralised venues – Australia, China PR or Uzbekistan, who have all been seeded into different groups.

The qualifying teams join Australia, China PR, DPR Korea, Japan and Korea Republic who pre-qualified as the top five ranked teams in Asia.

The three groups will be played between October 23 and November 1, 2023.

The three group winners and the best-ranked runners-up will then progress to Round 3 to play two pairs of home and away matches, scheduled for February 24 and 28, 2024, with the eventual winners taking the two spots reserved for Asia in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024.

Australia (as hosts), Japan, Korea Republic, China, Philippines and Vietnam have all qualified for the Women’s World Cup 2023 to be played this summer.

Pot 2 (4-6): Korea Republic, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei
Pot 3 (7-9): Thailand, Philippines, Uzbekistan*
Pot 4 (10, 11 + 1 non-ranked): India, IR Iran, DPR Korea
