AFC draws groups for 12 teams in second round of Asian qualifiers for Paris 2024

May 18 – The Asian qualifying route for women’s teams to the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 has become clearer following the Asian Qualifiers Round 2 official draw at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Asia has 12 teams still competing for the two slots for the Paris tournament. For the draw the were divided into four pots according to their seedings. The three group winners and the best-ranked runners-up will progress to Round 3 to play two pairs of home and away matches, with the two winners qualifying for the Olympics.

Round 2 group games will be played October 23 to November 1 and round 3 games February 24 and 28, 2024.

Asia has six teams qualified for the Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted in Australia and New Zealand this summer. All those teams are in the final Olympic qualifying group.

Current Asian form team Australia will host group A and are drawn with Chinese Taipei, Philippines and Iran.

AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 winners China PR are the top seeds and head Group B with hosts Korea Republic, Thailand and DPR Korea.

Group C will see group hosts  2012 Olympic silver medal winners Japan with Vietnam, hosts Uzbekistan and India.
