Bellingham shuns Premier League to head for LaLiga’s Real Madrid in €100m+ deal

June 8 – Real Madrid have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign England midfielder Jude Bellingham for €103 million.

Bellingham will become the third player to be signed by Real Madrid for a fee worth at least €100 million after Gareth Bale (2013) and Eden Hazard (2019).

One of the most promising talents in world football, the 19-year-old, who had been linked with several major European clubs, joined Dortmund in 2020 for £25 million becoming the most expensive 17-year-old in football history.

He soon became a permanent fixture in England’s midfield, playing all five games at the World Cup in Qatar.

Real, record 14-times European champions, are in the process of rebuilding their squad following high-profile exits such as Karim Benzema. They won the Copa del Rey but finished 10 points behind champions Barcelona in LaLiga and lost to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals.

Bellingham was named Bundesliga player of the season at the end of the just completed campaign, when he helped Dortmund to within an inch of their first Bundesliga title in over a decade.

Dortmund finished second, behind Bayern Munich, on goal difference after dropping points on the final matchday against Mainz, where the injured Bellingham watched from the bench.
