Albanian FA cancel Over Sport TV contract and sues for damages

June 30 – The Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) has terminated its TV broadcasting contract with the Over Sport which owned the rights for First and Second tier of Albanian football, as well for Albanian Cup and Supercup.

The FSHF made the decision after repeated non-fulfillment of contractual obligations by Over Sport

“The Albanian Football Federation announces that it has terminated the contract with Over Sport, which had won the rights to broadcast the Abissnet Superiore and First  league championships, as well as the Albanian Cup and the Albanian Supercup one year ago,” said an FSHF statement.

“Despite all the efforts of the Albanian FA to restore the cooperation with the company, Oversport repeatedly abused the trust given by the FSHF. The FSHF feels obliged to the fans and consumers in general, to inform them of this news, assuring them that it will make every effort to ensure professional and honest television broadcasting of its activities.

“In the meantime, the Albanian Football Federation will start the legal procedures regarding the restoration of the damages caused by the company in question for the non-fulfilment of the obligations stipulated in the contract signed between the parties at the beginning of the last season.”

The FSHF said the broadcaster had stopped paying the amounts stipulated in the contract.

“From January 2023, the company Over Sport has not paid the amounts provided for in the contract according to the relevant deadlines. This company has never given all the guarantees it was committed to in the contract. The production and telecast of national competitions has been beyond any technical standard and has directly affected the operation of the VAR system. Likewise, the editorial stance and journalistic contributions have been outside the requirements of the contract and in many cases even in violation of public morals or the sensibilities of different social groups. For all these cases, Over Sport has been notified and warned many times, most recently in May 2023, when it was given a deadline to fulfill its obligations until 31.05.2023, resulting in the termination of the contract,” added from the FSHF.
