Welcome to the USA. Wrexham open tour against Chelsea, Man Utd to come

July 19 – Wrexham, the unheralded Welsh side owned by American Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and globally recognised after the documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, have  gained even more notoriety.

The club, which was languishing in the fifth tier of English football before being given the A-list treatment,  have embarked on a US tour playing games against Chelsea (tonight), Manchester United, LA Galaxy II and Philadelphia Union II at venues in North Carolina, Los Angeles, San Diego and Pennsylvania.

The $2.5 million takeover of the club in 2021 led to promotion back into the Football League at the end of last season sparking wild celebrations.

Most other tier-4 teams could only dream of such a partnership and manager Phil Parkinson said: “Our tour of the United States will be an exciting part of the summer’s build-up to the new season and something we will all be looking forward to in July.

“To have the opportunity to play a team of Chelsea’s calibre at the Kenan Stadium, North Carolina, will be a terrific test for our players and form an important part of our preparations for the 2023/24 season.

“We’re looking forward to meeting some of the fans who have supported us so passionately from afar.”
