City council votes to financially support North Macedonia’s Vardar Skopje

July 21 – The Skopje City Council have voted unanimously to grant financial aid to the local football club Vardar Skopje.

The proposal was made by municipal councillor Nikola Panovski from the Liberal Democratic Party and was supported by councillors from all other political parties.

Following the decision by the Municipal Council of Skopje, the mayor of the North Macedonian capital, Danela Arsovska, has to rebudget funds from the municipal budget to financially support one of the most famous clubs in North Macedonia.

Due to ownership problems in recent years, Vardar was left to fend for itself, with the club lacking permanent funding. After local businesses withdrew their support of the club, the only, limited, financial support income was the club’s fans and the Komiti fan group.

It is expected that at the next meeting of the Municipal Council of Skopje that Arsovska will propose a specific sum to support Vardar, that will then be voted on by the municipal councillors.
