August 3 – The Women’s World Cup 2023 winner’s trophy will make an appearance this weekend at the FIFA museum during the FIFA fan festival in Sydney.
For two days only, the trophy will be on display as the crown jewel of the ‘Calling the Shots: Faces of Women’s Football’ exhibition presented by South Korean motor group Hyundai. Despite the trophy’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it stop, there’s still plenty to see as the event runs from July 20 to August 20 at Tumbalong Park.
The Museum focus is “on the people who have shaped what it means to play football from all facets of the game including players, coaches, and fans who have inspired women to lace up their boots”, said FIFA, with the aim to “inspire new fans and represent female players that have defined the love of the game on their own terms, leading the way for future generations”.
The days outside of August 5 and 6 will see the exhibition host the inaugural Women’s World Cup trophy (1991-95) as its chief attraction for the month-long display, as the 2023 winner’s trophy travels to Stadium Australia ahead of the World Cup final later this month.
“As 32 teams strive for glory in Australia and New Zealand, visitors are invited to step into the stories of those who took destiny into their own hands and called the shots that led the women’s game to greatness, today and beyond,” said FIFA.
The trophy will be lifted August 20 in Sydney by the new FIFA Women’s World Cup champions.
