Fan Festivals pass 500,000 visitor mark

August 8 – The FIFA Fan Festival for the Women’s World Cup 2023 has passed the milestone 500,000 visitors in the latest record broken by the tournament after witnessing its 1,500,000th match-ticket sale last week. The festival spans seven host cities spread through both host nations Australia and New Zealand.

The free-to-enter event is the first of its kind for a Women’s World Cup, although similar events have been held for the Men’s World Cup tournaments since 2006

The Fan Festivals have been showing Women’s World Cup matches live on their big screens throughout the tournament, and claim to offer an exciting programme of music, entertainment and local culture across the festival’s venues. The aim to create a fun and inclusive experience for fans of all ages.

Visitor numbers at the festival reached 500,000 after only 19 days of football and are expected to continue and even intensify as the tournament reaches its conclusion. The FIFA Fan Festival say their visitor numbers peak during matches but have remained continuous and consistent through the competition thus far.

“When we consider the stadiums as the heart of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, the FIFA Fan Festival is definitely the life and soul,” said FIFA’s Gerdine Lindhout.

“You can come with your family; you can come with your friends. There is something for all ages and the entrance is free of charge.”

The FIFA Women’s World Cup has entered its knockout phase as fans look to the all-important final on the 20th of August. Only nine matches remain.
