FIFA bigwig and Mali FA president Toure arrested on suspicion of embezzling public funds

August 10 – A member of FIFA’s all-powerful Council is reported to have been arrested, heaping fresh embarrassment on world football’s governing body.

Mali Football Federation President Mamoutou Toure is reported locally to be in police custody for alleged embezzlement of public Funds.

The strong man of Mali football was apparently arrested on Wednesday after he officially launched his campaign for another term in office.  He has been in power for six years, but faces a strong challenge from Salaha Baby

Malian football administration has been in crisis for years and in 2017 the country was banned for six weeks for government interference.
