Club World Cup in Saudi draws Club León vs Urawa Reds in second round

September 5 – The draw for the seven-team FIFA Club World Cup 2023 tournament – in 2025 the tournament moves to 32 teams and will be hosted in the US – has been held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Jeddah will host all matches with Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad opening against Auckland FC.

In the second round Mexican debutants Club León will face Japan’s Asian champions Urawa Reds, who have competed three times in the final. The winner will face Manchester City in the semi-final.

In the other second round match Egypt’s Al Ahly FC will meet the winner of Al Ittihad FC-Auckland City, with the winner of that tie facing the yet-to-be-determined Copa Libertadores champions (currently at the semi-final stage).

This is the 20th edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, and the first time the tournament will be hosted by Saudi Arabia. It will take place between 12 and 22 December 2023, with Jeddah staging all of the matches.
