China corruption crackdown accelerates with arrest warrant for top sports official

October 11 – China has ordered the arrest of a former top sports official as Beijing maintains a crackdown on corruption.

The arrest warrant for Du Zhaocai, former vice-head of China’s General Administration of Sport, comes days after he was booted out of the ruling Chinese Communist Party.

Du joins a growing tally of sports figures in China being investigated for corruption.

It includes Liu Jun, chairman of the Chinese Super League (CSL) company, and notable football personalities such as former national coach Li Tie, who has been criminally charged with bribery and other violations.
