October 16 – The battle for slots at the inaugural 12-team Concacaf 2024 W Gold Cup continue in October with Jamaica entering the fray and Haiti looking to get a grip on their group and push for automatic qualification.
Concacaf is looking to qualify six more teams to the W Gold Cup to be played in California February 17 – March 10, 2024.
The USA and Canada are pre-qualified as Olympic 2024 representatives. Four Conmebol guests have also qualified: Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, and Colombia (the four top finishers of the 2022 CONMEBOL Women’s Copa America).
That leaves six slots to fill from Concacaf. The three winners of the League A groups will automatically qualify. Second placed teams will play off against League B group winners.
Jamaica play Guatemala and Panama in the October window, and two wins would see them top the group with two to play.
Haiti, have the chance to go top of their group and pretty much guarantee qualification if they have two wins over St Kitts and Nevis. Haiti won their first round game against Costa Rica who top the group on goal difference.
In Group A, Mexico opened with two wins but do not play in the October fixtures. Trinidad and Tobago and Puerto Rico play each other twice and if one of them are unbeaten will match the Mexicans for points with just one game against them left to play in November.
In the first round of matches, Concacaf said 122 goals were scored across all three of the leagues.
