Aussie-Croatian businessmen take over at HNK Zadar

October 23 – Croatian top-tier club HNK Zadar has been sold to Australian businessman Marko Ivančić. The deal was unanimously approved by the Zadar City Council, said the club in a statement.

Ivančić represents a group of dual nationality Australian-Croatian businessmen originally from Zadar and who already own Australian A-League side McArthur FC in Sydney, and occupy leading positions in the ownership of side FC Sydney United.

Following the acceptance of the letter of intent, binding letter, proof of solvency and the offered guarantee, at HNK Zadar’s general meeting, the investors and the Board of HNK Zadar held a series of meetings with the representatives of the city of Zadar.
The investors are provinding a €100,000 loan (which will be converted into equity), a €200,000 deposit and a €700,000 debenture as initial investments.

The new money will be used to cover club expenses .

Ivančić said his group will invest in a new stadium, at a location determined by the City of Zadar. Under the new deal the Zadar city’s share will be 25% + 1 while the investors will hold  75% – 1 share.

The city said it will run the club’s youth facility budgeted at about €300,000 per year.

“The conclusion of the Agreement on the regulation of mutual relations between HNK Zadar, Investors and the City of Zadar will ensure a positive step forward for the development of the Club and football as a whole,” said a club statement.

“HNK Zadar is the bearer of quality in the area of Zadar County and beyond, with the support of the City of Zadar and the entry of Investors, stability is ensured and space is opened for the progressive progress of the first team and the strategic long-term positioning of the football school, which is taken as the primary goal considering the talent of young players and the potential that offers the Zadar climate. A strong HNK Zadar is in the national interest, the interest of the NS Zadar County and all member clubs, which largely rely on the quality that comes from the club’s football school from Stanovo.”
