AC Milan’s Florenzi investigated for illegal betting

November 17 – AC Milan’s international defender Alessandro Florenzi has reportedly become the latest Italian player to be investigated by authorities over alleged illegal gambling activities.

Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli have already been banned for 10 and seven months, respectively, by the Italian FA in the widening case.

Florenzi, 32, joined Milan last year with a contract through 2024-25. He was a member of the Italy squad that won the European Championship in 2021 and has won 49 caps.

He is apparently under investigation for betting on online games rather than football matches.  However, it is still prohibited in Italy for footballers to gamble on anything though any punishment is likely to be less severe if he is found guilty, most likely a fine.

He has apparently already met prosecutors to give his version of events.
