New World TV steps up for multi-country CAF deal starting with 2023 AFCON

December 4 – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has signed a broadcast rights deal with New World TV for the confederation’s competitions for the 2023-2025 cycle in Sub-Saharan Africa.

CAF said that the rights deal, including the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations broadcast rights, followed “a highly competitive tender process” that involved global networks.

In a statement, CAF president Patrice Motsepe said: “The Media Rights Agreement with New World TV is the biggest investment by a Pan-African broadcaster in CAF’s history. We are very proud to partner with such a globally competitive and innovative broadcasting company that has adapted quickly to the changing demands and viewing patterns of the modern football audience.

“New World TV is also introducing new ways of consuming video content through its strong partnerships with various mobile operators and its television networks.”

No value was released for the deal but local reports suggest the rights fee could be as much as $75 million.

New World TV are based in Togo and rose out of nowhere to get the rights to the 2022 World Cup for 19 African nations, beating competitive global networks in a deal that raised eyebrows.

Nimonka Kolani of New World TV Group said: “New World TV pays special attention to ensuring that all Africans can access their competitions at an affordable price. We are delighted that CAF trusts us and this opportunity given to us to be the gate keeper of their rights will allow us to strengthen the relationship with the public through these unique moments of events organised by CAF whose attractiveness is becoming more and more important.”
