Arsenal set new WSL attendance record of 59,000 for win over Chelsea

December 12 – Arsenal set a new Women’s Super League attendance record of 59,042 for their top-of-the-table clash against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The attendance surpassed the previoius record of 54,115, when Liverpool travelled to north London earlier this season, by almost 5,000.

The Gunners dominated their guests to pull level with them at the top of the BWSL, winning 4-1 thanks to goals from Beth Mead, Amanda Ilestedt and a brace from Alessia Russo.

Arsenal’s women’s team has experienced robust backing, evident from the consistently sold-out crowds at Meadow Park, their secondary home venue, throughout this season.

The support has extended beyond their home ground, with Arsenal fans filling every away ticket allocation in the WSL this season.

Vinai Venkatesham, CEO of Arsenal, said, “The support we’ve seen for our women’s team has been incredible, and is felt by everyone associated with our club.

“Breaking our own WSL attendance record is another landmark moment. We’re proud of our women’s team, our fantastic supporters, and our passionate people across our club – all of whom have contributed to this moment. The hard work that got us here will continue as we remain focused on nurturing the connection with our supporters.

“It’s been encouraging to see attendances and broadcast viewing figures grow this season across the WSL. We want to ensure that we drive this level of support consistently, season after season, as we continue to accelerate the sustainable growth of the women’s game.”

Arsenal host neighbours Tottenham Hotspur in the FA WSL Cup tomorrow (Wednesday) night before playing their arch rivals again in the league at the weekend. The Gunners, who are level on points with league-leaders Chelsea, will be looking to extend their impressive 9-game winning streak.
