Chile and Poland granted hosting rights to U-20 men’s and women’s World Cups

December 19 – FIFA have awarded hosting rights to Chile for the U-20 World Cup 2025 and Poland as the host of the U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026.

“Since 1962, Chile has organised FIFA events at the highest level, most recently the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015. The country’s organisational experience coupled with the passion of the Chilean fans will provide a fantastic setting for the stars of tomorrow,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Hosted every two years, the U-20 men’s competition is now in its 24th edition. 2025 will be the second successive tournament hosted in South America after Argentina hosted earlier this year as a last minute replacement for Indonesia who were withdrawn from hosting over threats that the Israeli qualified team would not be allowed to enter the country.

Uruguay are the reigning champions having beaten Italy 1-0 in the final.
The U-20 women’s World Cup is currently in its 11th edition to be played in Colombia next year, before Poland host in 2026.

In 2022, in Costa Rica, Spain beat Japan 3-1 in the final.

“Poland is a country with a magnificent football tradition and hosted a memorable edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2019, in which emerging stars like Erling Haaland made a great impression. Hosting the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026 will be a new milestone in Poland’s football history and one that will boost women’s football in the country and across the world,” said Infantino.

The slot allocation for both 24-team finals is the same: AFC: 4; CAF: 4; Concacaf: 4; CONMEBOL: 4; OFC: 2; UEFA: 5; host country: 1.
