Transfer talk: As the window does anyone know what’s on Mbappe’s mind? Does he?

January 26 – With the January transfer window closing in five days – and with not much business done – the longest running story of where  France forward Kylian Mbappe plays next, is still unresolved. He has received an offer to join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer and another to renew his contract with Paris St-Germain, but he remains undecided.

A move to Madrid could help Man Utd secure the signature of Real Madrid’s 23-year-old Brazil winger Vinicius Junior as the acquisition of Mbappe could put the player’s starting position in doubt.

Mbappe has said he wants to join Real Madrid but the Spanish side are offering about half the €70 million (£59.7 million) per year that the forward wants to move to the club.

As a short-term deal, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has requested his club make a return move for Europe-bound French forward Karim Benzema as the 35-year-old looks to leave Saudi club Al Ittihad after just six months.

Bayern Munich have turned their interest to Galatasaray’s 23-year-old French right-back Sacha Boey after ending their interest in 33-year-old Newcastle fullback Kieran Trippier. Boey has impressed in the Champions League this season, where he featured in Galatasaray’s match against FC Bayern, who have now opened talks with the player.

Newcastle United are closely monitoring Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White with the ambition to move for the player before the end of the January window. The 23-year-old Englishman has been a shining light in the Forest team this term and would be brought in to replace Miguel Almiron, who is strongly linked with a transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has expressed interest in acquiring 21-year-old striker Brian Brobbey from Ajax and the 21-year-old English defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. However, it’s worth noting that ten Hag no longer holds authority over transfer decisions.
