AFC appoints members to its Reform Taskforce  

February 13 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has appointed the members of its AFC Reform Taskforce for the 2023 to 2027 term.

Their key immediate task will be to bring the AFC’s statutes into line with FIFA’s who will approve proposed changes to their own statutes at the FIFA Congress in May.

AFC Vice President Hachem Haider will chair the AFC Reform Taskforce with ASEAN Football Federation President Maj. Gen. Khiev Sameth taking up the position of deputy chairperson.
The AFC’s FIFA Council members. Kohzo Tashima and. Kanya Keomany as well as Dr. Ahmad Reza Barati, a CAS Arbitrator and Sports Lawyer from Iran, complete the line-up of the Taskforce members.

The establishment of the AFC Reform Task Force was agreed by the AFC’s executive committee in December 2023.

AFC president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said at the time: “With the establishment of the AFC Reform Taskforce, we want to ensure that the AFC remains at the forefront of implementing the best governance practices, and it is worth reminding everyone as we embark on this process that we must always strive to strengthen our great game for our future generations.”

Once the first body of work is complete, the Task Force will “ensure the continued alignment of the AFC Statutes, Regulations, and Codes with the anticipated changes from FIFA, while also exploring additional reforms to keep the Confederation relevant in changing times,” said the AFC.
