Canada’s Alphonso Davies agrees personal terms for mooted Real Madrid move

February 26 – Bayern Munich and Canada star Alphonso Davies has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid for a move to Spain either this summer or when the player’s contract expires in 2025.

Real Madrid have reportedly been in detailed discussions with Davies in recent weeks having asked him not to extend his deal with Bayern Munich. German reports are that Davies’ salary demands for a renewal with Bayern were considered too high.

Davies is also embroiled in a players’ dispute with the Canadian federation over wages.

Following the announcement that PSG’s Kylian Mbappe has opted for a move to Madrid in the summer, ending his seven-year tenure in the French capital by leaving on a free tranfer, Los Blancos are looking to do the same with Davies as they build a more youthful side young side.

Mbappe has agreed to a substantial £8.5 million pay cut but will receive a signing on fee of more than €100 million. He will also retain an 80% share of image rights for any new commercial agreements inked after joining Real Madrid, breaking new ground from the 50/50 rule the club usually operates under.

No figures have been released for the Davies deal which would see the 23-year-old Canadian join the likes of Jude Bellingham (20), Vinicius Junior (23), Rodrygo (23) and Aurélien Tchouaméni (24).

The announcement will not ease the unrest at the FC Bayern, as the club slip away from retaining their Bundesliga title for the twelfth straight year.

At present, they sit eight points off Xabi Alonso’s invincible Bayer Leverkusen after dropping points versus Bochum last week.

During his time at the Bavarian giants, Davies has won the Champions League, five Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal and the Club World Cup. Though he has also been plagued by injuries.

Davies will likely feature against Freiburg on Friday evening after recovering from a internal ligament strain that ruled him out for Bayern’s back-to-back losses against Leverkusen and Bochum earlier this month.
