LaLiga review video of Vinicius Jr being racially abused by child

March 4 – LaLiga is analysing a video reportedly showing Vinicius Jr being racially abused during Real Madrid’s game at Valencia at the weekend.

A video posted on social media allegedly shows a child fan directing abuse towards Vinicius who scored twice in Saturday’s 2-2 draw and celebrated by raising his fist in the air.

The 23-year-old Brazilian has faced numerous incidents of racist abuse during his time in Spain.

In May 2023, he said ‘LaLiga belongs to racists’ after he was targeted, again by Valencia fans.

Three people were later arrested in connection with the abuse and Valencia were fined and ordered to partially close their stadium, for five matches, later reduced to three on appeal.

Five months earlier, an effigy of the player was hung from a bridge near Real’s training ground before a game against cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid.

One of the most targeted footballers in Europe, Vinicius was chosen last June to head up FIFA’s anti-racism committee, run by players and advocating greater punishments towards those found guilty of racist abuse. But it hasn’t stopped the perpetrators continuing their abuse.
