Enrique benches Mbappe for PSG’s draw with Reims

March 11 – Kylian Mbappe was dropped again for PSG’s clash with Reims on Sunday afternoon, as manager Luis Enrique continues to try and find a solution to the Frenchman’s absence next season.

The 25-year-old Mbappe will move away from the French capital in the summer as he completes a free transfer to Real Madrid but will receive a signing bonus of more than £100 million from the 14-time Champions League winners.

Mbappe was dropped from Luis Enrique’s starting eleven despite his familiar yet outstanding goal return this season, tallying 21 league goals and 4 league assists whilst being PSG’s most important player as they chase yet another French title.

The underwhelming draw marked the latest in a string of bizarre Mbappe omissions after the France captain was substituted at half-time in the goalless draw with Monaco last Friday, as Enrique insisted the club must “get used to playing without” their star striker.

Rather than sit out the rest of the match on the bench, he got changed at half-time and watched the rest of the match from the VIP box in the Parc Des Princes – a far cry from what is usually expected of a substituted player.

PSG moved 10 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 after their third domestic draw on the spin, while Reims stay in ninth place.

The Parisians will now focus on their French Cup quarter final matchup versus Nice on Wednesday evening.
