March 22 – Portugal’s  Primera Liga is the “stepping stone par excellence” for players being prepared for entry into Europe’s Big 5 leagues, according a CIES Football Observatory report into transfer values for players across 66 leagues worldwide.

The ranking finds that the three footballers playing outside the world’s top five competitions with the highest estimated transfer values are all in Portugal: António Silva (Benfica, €114 million), João Neves (Benfica, €95 million) and Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting CP, €87 million).

Real Madrid’s new recruit Endrick (Palmeiras, €80 million) tops the list for players outside Europe, ahead of Pedro (Flamengo, €42 million) and Paulinho (Atlético Mineiro, also €42 million).

The following players are the best valued in the other main leagues analysed: Jorrel Hato (€78 million) in the Netherlands, Georgiy Sudakov (€52 million) in Ukraine, Georginio Rutter (€41 million) in the English Championship, Oscar Gloukh (€36 million) in Austria, Matthew O’Riley (€31 million) in Scotland, Antonio Nusa (€28 million) in Belgium, Martin Baturina(€28 million) in Croatia, Cristian Medina (€24 million) in Argentina, Thiago Almada (€23 million) in the MLS and Julián Quiñones (€21 million) in Mexico.
