May 27 – US Soccer Federation president Cindy Parlow Cone has been elected to the Concacaf Council at the confederation’s 39th Ordinary Congress in Guadeloupe.
Although in her second term as USSF president, Parlow Cone has had very little visibility on the international political circuit. But with the US bidding for the 2031 World Cup, the timing of her election to Concacaf’s top table will be useful.
Also elected to the Concacaf Council was Belize FA president Sergio Chuc.
Held in Guadeloupe, Concacaf recognised one of its members who is not a member of FIFA. Guadeloupe is a French territory and while it takes a full part in Concacaf competitions, including the Gold Cup, it cannot enter FIFA’s world championships.
Addressing the congress by video link following the unexpected death of his father, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani thanked his membership for their commitment to the confederation, its competitions and initiatives.
“I want you to take the time to reflect, to look past the day-to-day, month-to-month accomplishments. Take a step back and see it’s all about people, our people, our Concacaf family. You are the 41 diamonds in our logo, our circle of football life, our Concacaf circle,” said Montagliani.
The Congress reviewed the record breaking 2023 Gold Cup and the growing importance of the Nations League, as well as the delivery of the first W Gold Cup in early 2024 and U17 Concacaf Women’s Championship.
The importance of capacity building initiatives and funding programmes for members was highlighted, including the Executive Mentorship Program and the One Concacaf Program, as well as the roll-out of the Coaching Convention, which is supporting Associations in the development and delivery of coach education programmes.
Concacaf’s 2023 audited financial statements and 2024 budget were approved.
