September 18 – Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will co-host the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in February 1-28, 2025, the African tournament that sees nations select players from their domestic leagues.
The hosting was confirmed by CAF president Patrice Motsepe earlier this week on a visit to Kenya. The finals had originally been scheduled for this year.
“CHAN is an excellent opportunity for Africa-based players. It is a perfect place to groom tomorrow’s winners of the AFCON,” said Motsepe.
“I have no doubt in my mind that Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will host the best CHAN in the history of the competition because I have seen how willing and committed the governments are.”
With three host countries the finals will be expanded to 19 teams. Qualifiers kick off next month.
The hosting is a major step forward for the Kenyan FA who were awarded the hosting rights in 2018, but lost them for not being ready to host. The Nyayo and Kasarani Stadia look set to be Kenya’s host stadia with Kenyan president William Ruto guaranteeing that all facilities will be ready.
Earlier this year the Kenyan FA came close to suspension from international competition following government interference. Back from the brink, the Kenyans are now hosting major African tournaments.
