LA 2026 reaches out countywide to build World Cup participation

May 27 – The Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee gathered leaders from 88 cities and communities at the GRAMMY Museum last week to outline countywide participation opportunities for the tournament. Los Angeles will host eight matches at SoFi Stadium, including the U.S. Men’s National Team opener and a quarterfinal.

Host Committee leaders Chris Klein, Larry Freedman, and Kathryn Schloessman encouraged L.A. County cities to join as partners by organising viewing events, decorating with banners, and participating in promotional activities leading up to the world’s most celebrated sporting event.

“While Los Angeles is the official host city, we want to make this World Cup a countywide celebration,” said Kathryn Schloessman, President & CEO of LASEC. “Communities throughout the region can create a phenomenal experience for visiting fans and help leave a lasting impact.”

The Host Committee is planning various activities including an opening week fan celebration at the Memorial Coliseum and official viewing parties. The volunteer program portal opens soon.

Los Angeles Tourism will curate a 39-day calendar of events showcasing the region’s attractions, neighbourhoods, and cultural experiences. “Los Angeles is a global capital of sports and entertainment, recently named the top U.S. city for soccer fans,” said Adam Burke, President & CEO of Los Angeles Tourism.

Community Legacy Programs:

26 Community Champions: Grant program honoring organizations that uplift communities through soccer

Grow the Game Initiative: Soccer clinics across the region starting this fall

Beautification Days: Volunteer cleanup events to revitalize neighborhoods

“The World Cup will be more than a tournament,” said Renata Simril, President & CEO of the LA84 Foundation. “It will leave a lasting impact on our city long after the final game by enriching lives and transforming communities.”
