Leeds to close out pre-season against AC Milan in Dublin

May 28 – Leeds United, promoted back into the Premier League for next season, are returning to big match and big money fixtures with their final pre-season game to be played August 9 against Serie A giants AC Milan in Dublin at the 51,700 capacity Aviva Stadium.

Leeds have traditionally had a strong connection with Ireland having had many Irish legends play at the club, including Johnny Giles, Robbie Keane, Ian Harte and Gary Kelly.

It will be the first time the two sides have met since the UEFA Champions League group stages in the 2000/2001 season, having only ever met three times in all competitions previously.

Kelly, who played 531 times for Leeds and amassed 52 caps for Republic of Ireland commented: “It’s going to be an exciting game and certainly a great test for this Leeds side before their Premier League campaign kicks off. I have great memories of the last time we played Milan, captaining the side against them in the Champions League. Obviously as a proud Irishman I am delighted this fixture is coming to Dublin, which I know the locals will welcome, packing out the Aviva Stadium and creating a great atmosphere.”

Leeds are returning to Dublin after nine years. AC Milan haven’t played in Dublin since their Europa League tie against Shamrock Rovers in the 2020/21 season.

Leeds United managing director Robbie Evans said: “We are delighted to head to Dublin to play a prestigious opponent in a world-class venue. We have a fantastic following across Ireland, with many supporters regularly making the commute to Elland Road. AC Milan as an opponent will not only be wonderful for our supporters but will be an excellent final preparation for re-entry into the challenge of Premier League football.”
