Angel City top Forbes rich list for NWSL

June 3 – With a net worth of $280 million, Angel City FC tops Forbes’s first-ever valuation of National Women’s Soccer League clubs.

Angel City leads the way following its acquisition by Disney CEO Bob Iger and his wife, Willow Bay, in July 2024. The pair acquired the franchise for a world-record $250 million. Angel City’s innovative business model and high-profile ownership group have been pivotal in attracting investment and fan engagement.

In second place, the Kansas City Current experienced the most significant valuation increase, soaring from $75 million in 2023 to $182 million. This surge is attributed to the opening of CPKC Stadium – the first arena built specifically for a women’s professional sports team – and successful commercial partnerships.

The pair of clubs, Forbes notes, have generated significant revenue, outpacing the rest of the league. Angel City had an estimated $35 million revenue in 2024 and Kansas City $36 million. San Diego Wave have the next-best revenue with an estimated $24 million.

The figures reflect a growing boom in the NWSL. Attendances are up with more than 2 million fans in total in 2024, or an average of 11,250 per game, and TV viewership also broke records with 18.7 million fans watching. On the flipside, most franchises still lose in excess of $10 million every season.

The US business publication estimates that all 14 clubs are worth at least $70 million, with an average value of $134 million. Together the clubs are worth $2 billion.
