TECNO dials up CAF for 2025 and 2027 editions of AFCON

June 9 – Chinese smartphone manufacturer TECNO has extended its partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), for the next two editions of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set for Morocco in 2025 and the tri-nation hosting in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in 2027.

The renewed agreement, which builds on TECNO’s involvement in AFCON 2023 as the exclusive smartphone sponsor, signals the company’s continued strategic focus on Africa as a key growth market. Under the terms of the deal, TECNO retains category exclusivity in the smartphone segment as an Official Global Partner and expands its media and digital activation rights across CAF competitions.

Africa remains one of the fastest-growing regions for smartphone adoption, with a young, mobile-first population driving demand.

“This renewed partnership is a testament to the deep trust and shared success we’ve built with CAF,” said Benjamin Jiang, Vice President of Transsion Holdings, TECNO’s parent company. “It reflects our shared vision of harnessing AI-driven innovation to shape a brighter future for Africa.”

While the sponsorship reinforces TECNO’s consumer positioning, it also highlights broader trends in brand investment across African sport. As infrastructure, media rights, and digital connectivity continue to improve, major tournaments like AFCON are increasingly seen as valuable platforms for global and regional companies to reach emerging middle-class consumers.

The partnership includes a development component. TECNO will continue its Dream on the Field Renovation Campaign, launched with CAF in 2024. The initiative focuses on refurbishing football pitches in underserved communities across the continent.

Véron Mosengo-Omba, CAF general secretary, said: “TECNO’s longstanding support for football in Africa has had a meaningful impact on the development of the sport. As the highest-profile football tournament on the continent, the Africa Cup of Nations symbolizes passion and the achievement of life-long dreams, resonating with young people’s hope for the future and spirit of exploration. Deepening this partnership will help to ensure that AFCON 2025 and 2027 reach new heights of excitement to delight football fans.”
