September 3 – Brazilian giants Palmeiras are on track to register record revenues after breaching the 1 billion reais ($156 million) mark this month.
The sales of Richard Ríos and Estêvão have boosted the Sao Paulo club’s revenues. The striker’s transfer to Chelsea was completed earlier this year, but the transaction was only recorded on the balance sheet after he departed. Ríos’s move to Benfica generated €21 million.
With those transfers, Palmeiras made R$ 288 million (€45 million) from player trading in July, which was the club’s main source of revenue for the month.
It means that Palmeiras have surpassed their budget projections. In the first seven months of 2025, the club, Brazilian media report, enjoyed total revenues of R$ 1.1 billion (€172 million), which is above the R$ 649 million (€101 million) that Palmeiras had budgeted for. The profit is also higher: R$ 366 million (€57 million), instead of R$ 5.8 million (900,000 euros).
Palmeiras are currently third in the Brazilian Serie A, trailing league leaders Flamengo by four points, but they have a game in hand. The club also remain in contention in the lucrative Copa Libertadores, where they eliminated Universitario 4-0 on aggregate in the round of 16 to set up a quarter-final clash with Buenos Aires giants River Plate.
Earlier this year, Palmeiras participated in the Club World Cup, reaching the last eight before falling at the hands of eventual champions Chelsea. They took home an estimated R$ 216,8 million (€33,8 million) but that prize money was subject to both US and Brazilian taxes.
In 2022, Flamengo were the first Brazilian club to pass 1 billion reais revenue mark.
